Learning to See

The more I paint, the more I notice.

Painting has taught me something I never expected.

It has taught me how to see.

Not just color or light, but the quiet beauty that's always been there. An old barn weathering another season. Morning light stretching across a field. Wildflowers blooming beside a country road. A favorite teacup that carries years of family memories.

Those moments didn't suddenly become beautiful.

I simply learned to notice them.

Learning to See is more than a place to share my original oil paintings. It's where I'll share the stories behind them, the places and moments that inspire them, and the lessons I've learned by slowing down and paying closer attention to the world around me.

Some posts will take you into my studio as a painting comes to life. Others will explore the beauty of familiar places, changing seasons, treasured heirlooms, and the quiet details that often go unnoticed. Along the way, I'll share what painting continues to teach me about observation, gratitude, and finding joy in everyday life.

Over the years, my work has come to be guided by a philosophy I call Peaceful Realism. It's the belief that ordinary places and everyday scenes already hold extraordinary beauty. My role as an artist is simply to notice them and invite you to notice them, too.

I don't paint to make ordinary things seem extraordinary.

I paint because they already are.

Sometimes we just need a gentle reminder.

I believe art can do more than decorate a wall. The right painting becomes part of a home. It greets you each morning, offers a quiet pause at the end of a busy day, and gently reminds you to appreciate the beauty that's already around you.
